Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Anurag Kashyap starrer ready to make its digital debut
The trailer for Haddi, the eagerly anticipated direct-to-digital film, was recently released by ZEE5 Global, the largest streaming platform for South Asian content globally. Haddi comes to Delhi from Allahabad to join a gang of transgender people and rises to the top of the criminal food chain to exact revenge on his family for being wronged by a powerful gangster who is now a politician, Anurag Kashyap. “Haddi,” a dark and twisty revenge drama co-written by Akshat Ajay Sharma and Adamya Bhalla, deftly reveals the complex web of criminal underworld activity that permeates the nation’s capital.
“In my head, I never thought that I was playing the role of a transgender,” stated Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Being a whole woman is what every transgender woman desires to be, so I always treated it as portraying a feminine role. I stayed with transgender groups before filming, so I was aware of their desire to embrace femininity. I learned a lot from this experience, and I should portray a female character instead of acting out the part. I prepared carefully since I knew it would be difficult because I would have to change into a different character on the same day after two to three hours of makeup application.
“I am proud of Akshat and the hard work he has put in to make Haddi what it is,” Anurag Kashyap remarked. I’ve worked with Akshat for many years as an AD (assistant director), and I had the good fortune to be an actor in his first feature picture as a filmmaker. Haddi is seductive, fervent, dramatic, full of drama and retaliation, and unlike anything you have ever seen.
